David Hughes is an artist that uses Lego blocks to create contemporary art. He uses Legos to elevate them into modern art with precise and careful designs. One of main reasons Hughes uses Legos is because he feels like it can engage to all ages. Most of us have probably played with Legos as a child, and Hughes incorporates these playful pieces of art with grown-up concepts of design. Hughes states that he aims to make his mosaic accessible, colorful and fun. He tries to emphasize the emotion and essence of the subject to the best of his ability.

Many of David Hughes' stand alone pieces depict an individual or individuals in a certain pose or stance. In the top left piece, you can tell from the body language that the individual does not want to be bothered. For the top middle sculpture, there are two people performing a sort of performance. And finally, in the top right piece, the individual seems like he does not want to look at the world around him. In the bottom pieces, they are different pieces of Lego art that have their own unique style within the gallery. David Hughes makes many diverse mosaic and sculpture pieces, and there are four different colored Day of the Dead skulls that he created.
